Black Bear Tours Guided
by Tom Harrison
Tom Harrison is the founder of the NC Black Bear Festival, Bear-Ology Black Bear Museum and an expert on North Carolina’s Coastal Black Bears. Tom has been walking with and observing bears, as well as taking pictures of black bears for over 20 years. He has access to vast tracts of private land and is offering four exclusive tours – two in August and two in September. Recently, Tom has been seeing 30-60+ bears in an afternoon!

The tours will be conducted using his elevated open-top swamp buggy with seating limited to 5 passengers. This will be a half-day afternoon/evening tour that will begin in Plymouth, NC with a tour of Bear-Ology followed by a trip to see and photograph black bears. Guests will see more bears in an afternoon than most outdoor enthusiasts will see in a lifetime. They will also learn a tremendous amount about these magnificent animals, including how to identify bear sign, bear vocalizations and much more.
The cost of these tours is $200 per person with no discounts based on the age of guests - due to limited seating. A 50% deposit is required. The tour will begin at 1 pm and return to Plymouth at approximately 9:30 pm. Water and snacks will be provided. Out-of-town guests can make hotel reservations at any of several hotels in Plymouth to choose from.
This is an off-road experience and is subject to weather conditions. If it is raining or the roads are muddy from a previous rain, the tour will be canceled and a full refund will be made. In addition, the swamp buggy can be a rough ride at times even at the low speed at which the tours are made. People with back conditions or heart conditions should not take this tour. Guests will be required to sign a waiver in advance of the tour.
To book a seat on one of these exclusive tours, call Bear-Ology at 252-793-6627 between 8 am & 5 pm M-F. Reservations are on a first come-first serve basis.
